D-Link has just officially launched its AC750 Portable Router and Charger DIL-510L. This device joins the growing number of portable devices that offer not only Internet connection but also an extra battery for emergencies.

The AC750 debuted at CES 2014 early this year and is clearly designed for the road warrior. This is a portable router and not a portable WiFi hotspot however, as it relies on an external source for the Internet connection. It can be hooked up to an Ethernet cable or a USB modem to connect to the Internet and share it with multiple clients.

Of course, the device has other functions as well. The USB ports can be plugged in with USB drives to share content via WiFi to connected devices. The router has a 4000 mAh battery that can be used to to charge smartphones and tablets in a pinch. It even has a built-in DLNA server for streaming media. The router does have an interesting feature of masquerading as a single client for WiFi hotspots and then sharing that connection among connected devices so that they will only get charged for a single device.

The AC750 Portable Router and Charger DIL-510L is now starting to hit shelves. D-Link is attaching a $99.99 price tag for this device. The router is useful but has a very specific use case, built for those who usually connect to the Internet from other means or regularly share the connection among multiple users or devices.
