Sega, along with Hardlight Studios has announced the latest for the Crazy Taxi franchise. There will be a new version coming, and they have also made the original available for free as part of a limited time promo offer. The new release will be Crazy Taxi: City Rush, and the original currently sits in the Play Store where it can be downloaded for free.

Crazy Taxi will remain available for free through March 19th, and while this should be able to provide for some solid weekend entertainment -- we are a bit more excited about the City Rush release. Sega has yet to offer an exact release date and at this time have opted to offer the general sounding "later this year."

More important though, there is a teaser trailer and some other details of the game. The Crazy Taxi: City Rush release is said to be "a game reimagined for a new generation of mobile gamers." To that point, the original Crazy Taxi release came back in 2000. The version you see in the Play Store has been "remastered for mobile devices" but remains based on the Dreamcast version.

Crazy Taxi: City Rush captures the spirit of the beloved Crazy Taxi series with one-touch, intuitive controls that make for a fun and frantic ride everyone can enjoy. In Crazy Taxi: City Rush, there's no mission too insane, no stunt too dangerous and no passenger too outrageous...nothing is safe!

Crazy Taxi, the version currently available, has options for Arcade and Original modes, as well as 3, 5 and 10 minute game play. There is also a fairly decent soundtrack with tracks from The OffSpring and Bad Religion. And lastly, while Sega has Crazy Taxi available for a wide variety of devices, we should point out how that includes controller support for the NVIDIA Shield.
