Would you be willing to shell out $20,000 for just one smartphone? Well, if you were a top executive at a company or if you had money to spare for ultra-expensive gadgets, and if the specs are pretty impressive, then you probably would. This is what start-up company Sirin is hoping will happen when they eventually release their rumored smartphone next month. Now as to what the features will be that will merit such a price tag, that is still the question.

Sirin Labs AG is a British-Israeli start-up and they claim that they have already raised $72 million in private funds to be able to produce their first device called Solarin and open their first store in London this May. The smartphone will actually be aimed at executives and will supposedly offer levels of technology and security that we have only dreamed of. Co-founder and president Moshe Hogeg said, “(Our) smartphone …brings the most advanced technology available – even if it is not commercially available – and combining it with almost military-grade security.”

But as to what these specs are, we still have no idea and rumors are scarce other than the fact that it will run on the Android platform. The luxury phone market is valued at $1.1 billion and the devices available here are mostly for status symbol rather than the actual benefits the smartphone can offer. You have your Vertu devices that cost somewhere in between $10,000 to $30,000, with the most expensive one being the iPhone 5 Black Diamond which costs $15.3 million.

Hogeg said that since there were no devices in the market that offered high-end technologies with maximum security, they decided to make one. Now let’s see if that $20,000 price tag would be worth it, at least for your status symbol.
