If you are looking to keep your Android device free of malware and hoping to do so without spending any money, you now have another option to consider. The folks at Bitdefender have recently announced Antivirus Free for Android. The app is available by way of the Google Play Store and as the name suggests — it can be downloaded and used for free.

The Bitdefender app touts itself as being able to offer malware protection, cloud scanning and as having a low impact on battery life. Perhaps a bit nicer for the average user, the Bitdefender app is ready to go upon installation. In other words, there is nothing to set up or configure — you simply download, install it and the app is ready to offer protection.

Some of the features include being able to scan apps on-demand and also have the app scan apps automatically upon installation. Part of the low battery impact comes in regards to the cloud. The Bitdefender app offers cloud-based threat detection and also doesn’t need to install any virus signatures directly on the device.

Of course, as we would suspect with any type of antivirus app announcement, Bitdefender has opted to include some stats that may make you want to have some added protection. In this case, they have said that “Android malware increased by 27 percent in the last six months alone” and that the more common types include premium rate number dialing, password theft and general device monitoring.
