One of the things that I hate the most about buying smartphones is that the price you see typically isn’t the real price of the phone. You have to hope for instant discounts and often you need to mail in rebates.

Sprint has announced that on October 11 it will be offering the HTC Hero Android phone to its customers for $179.99 after a $50 instant rebate and a $100 mail-in rebate. Best Buy is offering a sweeter deal for the same phone though.

Best Buy will give shoppers who get the Hero for Sprint at Best Buy Mobile the full $150 rebate instantly. That means no mailing in receipts and waiting to get your money. You can get the Hero in Best Buy on October 11.

  1. That's a great deal for Hero in comparison to Unlocked versions selling now!
Don't know if I wan't to jump ship though.
Sprint was my first mobile provider, and I had to check my bill every month for inconsistencies!
  2. Who moderated talkbackdroid? I went ahead and approved it.
  3. Well that's great news, for Sprint users. All I know is that everyone I know who had/has Sprint talks about how much it sucks and I'm definitely not signing up with them just for the Hero.
  4. Is this for the US?
  5. I believe that is an incorrect photo of the Sprint Hero. The Sprint Hero looks like this
  6. so then its a done deal? hero is def gonna come to sprint?

too bad sprint is really shady
  7. Not only shady, but just not very good in general. They've got horrible service as far as I know. The only thing they've got going for them is their 3G network I do believe.

yeah dont get me wrong their coverage is crazy good around here but they have the worse CSR and customer service in general
  9. Another decent phone becomes a USA only toy. If it isn't GSM it's not interesting, at least for me. I travel way too much. Of course, I could always stay at home at watch NASCAR...

Really? Good coverage? Hm, I've heard a looooot of negative about their coverage, but I suppose it depends on the area. Personally I'm going to need a provider that's good mostly anywhere in the U.S. but also good overseas.
  11. it's too bad sprint crapped up the design as well, not really sure why you are picturing the non-sprint styled HTC hero for this.
  12. ppl are bashing sprint all over the place on here

    ??

i don't get it - i've never had a bad experience with sprint

they even call back to make sure issues are taken care of
  13. When I had sprint, I dropped calls constantly, got over charged, customer service was the worst I've ever had for anything and I had to pay to talk to them. One time my phone got cut off while they had my check because they said the department that process checks was closed. Sprint sucks, in Michigan AT&T suck, Verizon is ok only because I get a discount but, they suck by default because CDMA sucks. That's my opinion on it lol.
  14. worst part about sprint is they are non-gsm
  15. im trying to convince my sis to get rid of her palm centro and get on the android band wagon lol

i just wanna play with the hero but dont want sprint again
  16. Good news for all of us Big Red Customers (verizon)!! I just read over on Phandroid that verizon is going to get HTC Hero (maybe under another name) sometime in November! I am excited about this move and I hoep it actually goes through, but from the conference call and the pictures on the link below, it seems pretty possible!!
