AT&T Dell Streak Froyo reportedly delayed again: “A couple of more weeks at least”

The promised Dell Streak Android 2.2 Froyo update for AT&T-locked versions of the tablet, which the company had suggested would arrive this week, looks to be further delayed. According to an internal Dell email forwarded to Streak Smart, users shouldn't expect Froyo for "a couple more weeks at least."

"Sorry for getting back to you so late, but as you probably guessed we / AT&T are not releasing the update this week. I'd say a couple of more weeks at least. AT&T is pretty thorough in their QA sessions and that's where we are." Leaked Dell email

It seems the delay is around finalizing the Streak software to make sure it runs properly on AT&T's network, though neither company is saying exactly what's going on.

    I called Dell mobility services on Jan. 12th and they said it had been released and would take 2 to three weeks to get to everyone, but I could not find anything on any of the forums confirming this. My 30 days was up on the 13th so I returned it and canceled my service with At&T. It is a shame that when I called AT&T on multiple occasions, they could not ever give me a straight answer and referred me to Dell where they just lied to me.

    I gave up on Tuesday and installed a cracked version of Froyo with Dell’s 2.2 stage that was released for unlocked phones and it works great.

    AT&T sucks.

    … As I see it, I would like to think the slow process is to ensure the 2.2 update will work without problem on the AT&T network. If they (Dell/AT&T) release without testing, then something could break and everyone of us will be complaining about that… If I was a company like AT&T, I’d rather have people being impatient for a new software release than actually having a valid complaint for broken phone software.. Does everyone remember the IPHONE debacle?

    I am just as eager as everyone else to get 2.2, but in the meantime I have a phone and OS that works… patience is a virtue

    I purchased my 1st Streak Aug 13, 2010…returned it due to what Dell tech thought was a software issue, got the replacement in Sept, only to find the same issue and on my on that 1.6 won’t work with my Laptop sync, I was told 2.1 would be out in Oct…. Epic Fail….kept Streak, Nov…. 2.2…. Epic Fail, Dec, called Dell again..was told ATT would OTA 2.2, called ATT… .ATT has no clue about support of Streak, called Dell again in Jan, the finger pointing started, called Dell to return Streak # 2, I was told in a nutshell….To Bad, So Sad…..your over you 30 day return!!! Now…..it’s pushed back again!?…..why do i feel robbed? Buy Dell???!! …..Never Again !!!!

    I have At&T Streak (baseband 31) and isntalled 2.2 months ago for baseband 00 (Build # 11548 – official DELL relase for baseband 00). It runs great. Why bother waiting for AT&T release. I am afraid they are going to strip down teathering. So I am happy with baseband 00.

    Thats it…I have held off hacking/rooting my Streak…but now I feel my hands are tied. They have driven me to this…especially since I can jailbreak my old iPhone 3G and put Droid 2.2 on it.

    My iPhone now has a better version of android than my brand new Streak has…and the only reason I bought it was because the douchebag salesman promised me I could update it out of the box.

    They’re all just douchebags. Dell and AT&T….

    Maybe it’s just me, but my phones works great. I’ve had it since Thanksgiving. I want the new version like everyone else, but I would rather wait for a good install than to get it quick and have to live with a ton of bugs. But like I said at the beginning, maybe it’s just me :-)

    I, like all of you, feel this is bull, but allow me to clear the air… this debacle is AT&T’s fault…. unlocked Dell Streaks received an OTA update of Android 2.2 (froyo) on November 15, 2010 and have been running the software without issue.

    AT&T lost sole “custody” of the iPhone for a reason… that’s not to say Dell didn’t make any mistakes, but as far as the update, that rests solely on AT&T’s shoulders.

    This is mid January 2011 and most the Dell Streak Users are still stuck with adroid 1.6 ! What a hopeless company of Dell and AT&T. They couldn’t careless about getting their act together and push android 2.2 out for the lock providers! It just too many lame excuses and all the talks about “it coming”! I hope they realize that there always a consequence of letting down streak user. Read my lip Dell & At&T “PUSH ANDROID 2.2 NOW , or we going to RETURN ALL OUT DELL STREAK !” AND NEVER BUY OR SIGN ANY CONTRACT WITH YOU”……

    well, in the meantime, I am going to box mine up and return it so that I can cancel my contract with at&t before my 30 days are up. this will end an over 15 year relation ship with 8 active lines of service (as I suspect most buyers of high end devices are busuness owners themselves) my old 3gs (thats taken 2x 30 mph spills off my bicycle) is twice the phone this streak is. I was willing to wait until the 12th (which was still within my return period) but now I am done, as are alot of people. I’ll be done for good with Dell and At&t over this. make sure to watch their stock price :)

    Dell should have pushed the 2.2 updates to all phones and let att push their own update later….i have a captivat and shortly after i got it att pushed an update to add a bunch of bloatware and disable tethering…..point is dell is making extra money selling unlocked versions right now and att is working on handicapping the phone….dont wait update thru the xda forums. ..There is a small risk but what the hell if the update works as mine did you will be a happy person.

    It’s because of AT&T that we do not have ANY updates. NOT Dell! AT&T has never updated a single one of it’s Android phones. NOT A SINGLE ONE! THEY DO NOT LIKE US BEING ABLE TO SIDE LOADS APPS, much less anything else on Android outside their rules! Why would Dell update EVERY STREAK in the world, all except for the one that runs on AT&T? That being said, I’m still within my 30 with BestBuy, but have ordered an unlocked one form Dell. When that puppy comes in I’m returning this thing. It better update to 2.2 like they said it would. On Dells side of it though, 1.6 is a joke considering that 2.2 was already available when they launched this a awhile back. They could’ve at least released it with 2.1. It’s like releasing Win95 on a PC that has the capability of running Win7! The phone has PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER (echo the word power), but has itty bitty living space.

    Dell’s tech-support assured me that AT&T had nothing to do with manipulating the Android update for the Streak; (another lie?)
    Given that AT&T is not even providing direct support for the device (they are directing you to Dell), it might actually be true that AT&T would not install any of their own software. Crippling the tethering would be another issue all-together.
    I for one will be rooting and applying a custom ROM if any of that occurs. If I wanted an AT&T phone I would have bought a PHONE from AT&T.

    ve you heard the latest news Samsung is now presureing Tmobile not to release the Froyo update for the Vibrante b/c they are scared it will affect the sales of the new Vibrante eventhough the old phone when updated will have the same specs and capabilities as the new Vibrante now both carriers and manufacturers are playing this update game and the consumers are sufering see the mess google has created it’s all about sales why give an update if they want the latest OS let em buy a new phone sad but true google gave us freedom but we are still held hostage by these greedy companys

    the same thing happen to me call att about the update they had me in the phone like for an hr and then they call dell suport and dell told me that there was an update allready but it will take like 2 weeks to get to all of us .. so im thinking they are just lieing to us this is bull sh#@@ if any one know how to update let me know thanks..

    How can AT&T be so strict with Android when they have never delayed any iphone updates? The updates come from the manufacture of the device and the OS developer. There is nothing for AT&T to review. Once they decided to sell an OS on any device they have agreed and approved the OS for the device and it’s safety for its customers. AT&T has not right to delay or to hold off an update. Google has publicly said they built Android for developers. It’s not as secure as Apple’s Iphone. There is no reason for AT&T to delay this because every Android comes with updates all the time. None of the updates are perfect from any OS. This is not good. This is another reason to why AT&T is the #3 provider. Simple things like this put a black eye on the company. Shame on AT&T. Shame on you.
    Dell released Fryo 2.2 months ago on the unlocked devices and those customers are happy and enjoying 2.2. We are all stuck with 1.6.

    I just hung up with AT&T. First I called Dell, who told me they have the OTA update and are ready to release it but cannot as AT&T has once again delayed it. No one seems to know WHY, just that it has happened.

    So I called AT&T and worked my way 3 levels up the support chain to try and get an answer. Ultimately I was told that no one at AT&T could tell me when it would actually be released. Feeling rather incredulous over that answer, I actually asked “Are you telling me there is no one, in the entire corporate structure of AT&T, who can tell me when they’re going to allow it to be released, and was told “That’s correct”. REALLY?

    When I told them I would have to consider switching carriers and going to someone who COULD support release it, they even offered to talk to billing to eliminate any penalties associated with my doing so. REALLY???

    AT&T is obviously willing to sacrifice customers, or at the very least their customers good will rather than be straight with them.

    And then too, the ‘manager’ I was speaking with also told me I was the ONLY ONE who has complained about this, and he has had no other reports of any complaints. REALLY??? What, is this guy an Ostrich with his head in the sand, or what?

    This is much the same as when I bought my first iPhone through them over two years ago. A major selling point for me at the time was that the device be able to tether to my laptop. “Well, it doesn’t now, but with the new software release coming out next month it WILL be”. Two and a half years later my iPhone still doesn’t tether (UNLESS I’m willing to drop my unlimited data plan) and now they’re doing the same thing with the FROYO release.

    Once again AT&T has decided to put the screws to their customers and has lied to us all.

    Go to streakdroid.com and then to guides and update your streak to 2.2 using QDLTool.. Then google dell streak 2.2 318 .. The latest official build and download it directly from the dell website and it will update your phone.. Don’t be a bunch of retarded monkeys who just can’t wait for an official att rom pre loaded with a bunch of bloatware ( stupid att apps ) you cant uninstall.. Why do I feel like i’m surrounded by effin idiots? You don’t deserve this device if you can’t use it…. I had it for two days before I updated.. Or if you are still to dumb to follow these steps above, call att and tell them you are moving out of country for business and need the unlock code for your streak.. Google how to get your IMEI# on dell streak……. Problem solve kids.

      Hi. Looks like you know what you´re talking about. I am considering getting a specific streak as a bargain BUT: It is without contract obligation but locked to AT&T. I do NOT want the official 2.2 update from AT&T with all the preloaded stupid AT&T stuff in it you mention. I´d rather have the carrier-less official 2.2 update. Is it doable? Do I have to unlock the phone first with the code or REBEL sim? Or any update file other than AT&T´s one will not work? Please let me know. Thanks a bunch.

    I am also a victum here and as far as at&t blaming dell and vice versa, its a shame we, the customers are caught in the middle of this crap. Before purchasing this dell streak I specifically asked dell’s customer support when will this device be upgraded, I was told in november before thanksgiving, that never happened, then I’m told in december way before the 31st, as we all know, that never happened. Out of sheer frustration I called dell and was told the update will occur duringh the week of january 12 2011,as usual, I waited and nothing, now I’m told as of 01/24/11 the upgrade will occur by the 31st of january. We are simply told just anything to get us off the line. I feel if there are others out there that can create a cooked rom for the dell streak within a week or so yet two companies as huge as at&T and dell can’t seem to get it together in all this time, somethings very wrong with this picture.Theres strength in numbers, we ALL should send our grievance to michael_dell@dell.com, they do not want a full return of this product since dell not just lose monies but dell customers as well, this they don’t want nor need. I honestly feel we’ve been duped as customers. When I wanted to return my dell streak I was asked by dell’s customer support to hold on since this upgrade is coming during all those times listed, so after no upgrade arrived and I again wanted to return my dell streak, I was then told sorry you’ve had it over the 30 days max. I guess so when I was asked to hold on to the damn thing and was lied to about this upgrade. Dell is going to surely regret this since dell’s credibility is down the drain at this point and time. In this recession, trusting dell customers faithfully laid out their hard earned cash for a purchase with a promise. I, myself laid out $540.00 plus tax on a device thats now just packed away and I purchased the samsung galaxy-s p1000 tab which I can get to the important things I need to get to that the dell streak with its elderly OS won’t allow me to do.Never again will I EVER make a purchase from dell unless whats being sold is fully upgraded from start, I’ll never make another purchase with a promise from them. I’ve completely lost trust and faith in dell as well as at&t. Altho I feel since dell created this streak and they see at&t is causing problems making them look bad, then as business people, move to another source and save face.
