ASUS Transformer minor OTA Update rolling out, Netflix now working

Today ASUS has started the rollout for a small OTA update to the ASUS EeePad Transformer Tablet. From initial reports the update brings the Transformer up to build 8.6.5.9 and many are reporting that Netflix is now fully supported. We saw the Netflix logo appear on the homepage for the ASUS Transformer but we’ve still yet to see any official comments or support as of late.

While users are claiming Netflix still doesn’t show up in the market, you can download it manually and it works without root or making any changes. Download Netflix here and let us know if it works in the comment section below. The Asus Transformer recently received Android 3.2 Honeycomb so this could also bring a few changes and bug fixes for that, but we don’t have a change-log to confirm any details thus far.

This latest OTA update that is rolling out to Transformer users now also brings with it an update for the dock software. If you dock your Transformer that software will also be updated to version EP101-0213. We recently saw a few accessories and docks leak over on Amazon and this new software update might be just what was needed for those accessories.

Go ahead and check for updates and feel free to share any details, comments, or concerns in the comment field below.

From ASUS Italy: “This update resolves a number of issues emerged following the release of Honeycomb 3.2. It ‘was held in great consideration the feedback from your users. In particular you can now choose between curso king to form a circle and the arrow-shaped. It ‘has added a compatibility mode for apps developed for Android. You can enable or disable the keyboard when the dock is connected. And the device will turn on faster. ” http://www.eeepc.it/eee-pad-transformer-aggiornamento-8-6-5-9-dettagli/

Netflix APP is working on my ASUS Eee Pad Transformer after installing the latest Firmware Update 8.6.5.9.  My Eee Pad is NOT “rooted”. The Netflix APP I installed previously now works to play Videos.  I verified that the Neflix APP works by watching parts of several different videos on my Eee Pad.  I did not need to re-install the Netflix APP.

Yippie, it works!  In previous attempts to get Netflix working, I made some changes to my system/build file that didn’t work.  I need to go back in and undo what I did to see if that is why my screen doesn’t rotate, but in any event.  The OTA update did get the streaming to work.

Restored /system/build file but screen does not rotate.  Bummer, checked my EVO 4G and it doesn’t rotate on that either.  EVO not a big deal but it would be nice to have screen rotate on Transformer.  Anybody know how to enable screen rotation while running Netflix app?  Surly not everybody is watching movies while pad is docked on keyboard which is the only orientation available.

Netflix working in Canada after I installed a free VPN service.  After working the first time, you do not have to connect to the VPN fhereafter to get Netflix to stream on my Transformer.  Bought a mini-HDMI cable and connected to my 50 inch Samsung to get big scren viewing.
