Rovio began with some teasing and then dropped an official gameplay trailer for Angry Birds GO! back in October. The release date came along with the trailer and as was expected, Angry Birds GO! has arrived and is now available for download from the Google Play Store. Rovio has released this one for free and similar to other recent Angry Birds updates — this one also has support for Hasbro’s TELEPODS.

Angry Birds GO! has been released as v1.0.1 and brings support for devices running Android 2.3.3 or later. Perhaps more important are the features of the game, which in this case marks a first for the Angry Birds. The release of GO! is the first time the birds and pigs have had a 3D world. There are a variety of game modes to include Race, Time Book, Fruit Splat, Champion Chase and Mega Match as well as a variety of different tracks including regular racetracks, stunt roads, air courses and off-road courses.

“Welcome to downhill racing on Piggy Island! Feel the rush as you fling those freewheeling birds and piggies down the track at breakneck speed – with plenty of twists and turns in a thrilling race to the finish line! But beware! Look out for hazardous roads, mischievous opponents riding your tail and special powers to put the race leader behind the pack. Plus, go from soapbox car to supercar by upgrading your ride! Ready…Set…Angry Birds Go!”

Users will be able to play as a bird or a pig with character options including; Red, Chuck, Terence, Stella, King Pig, Moustache Pig and others. Otherwise, users will begin the races with a homemade soapbox car and can eventually move up to a “super-fly supercar.” To that point, Rovio has said there are tons of karts and upgrading can be done by earning or purchasing.

Aside from the current feature set, there will also be more to come with future updates. Rovio hasn’t offered much in terms of detail here, however they did say the “race has only just begun – so look out for many more fun things coming your way.” And lastly, while the game is available for free and for a wide variety of Android versions, we did notice we were not able to install GO! on our Nexus 7.
