If you’re a proud owner of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 and you’ve been waiting like forever to update your smartphone to the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, well then you’d have to wait a little longer. But the good news is that the Lollipop preview is now available for your device, so at least that’s something. The bad news is that it will take a little more effort on your part to enjoy at least some semblance of the major update, as you would have to flash it out yourself.

Unlike the direct updates where you’d just have to tap just a few buttons and you’d automatically be Lollipop-ized, the Preview for the Mate2 will have to be installed manually. You would need to download and install the first version of the update yourself, and you need a microSD to do so. But the first step (and always should be) is to backup all the content of your smartphone just in case something goes wrong. You can do it either through the Backup app that comes with the EMUI software. There is also a HiSuite app for Windows, or if you’re already using a backup app, you can also use that as well.

To be able to flash the Preview of Android Lollipop, you need to put the extracted file from the B309.zip which contains the update. You would need to copy the whole dload folder to the root director of the microSD card. Insert the card onto your Mate2, press the Volume Up and down keys simultaneously then press the power button. When it turns on, release your hold on the power button. The phone will restart once it has finished booting and then reset the factory data when you enter the Emergency Data dialog. Reboot the phone when reset is done, and voila, you now have a preview of Lollipop on your deivce.

There is no word yet as to when the final update will get to the Huawei Ascend Mate 2. But just in case you have issues with this preview, you can still restore your device to its previous version, following the detailed instructions from the source link below.
