Another Saturday has arrived, which ultimately means another week has come to a close. This week did bring some interesting news and announcements, however as exciting as it was — it seems it was going to be a hard follow-up to the previous week when we saw HTC announce the One (M8).

We covered much of the HTC One (M8) news in the previous week, however we did compare the M8 and M7 just a few days earlier. Those considering an upgrade, or maybe even considering picking up a deeply discounted One (M7) may want to check out that post. We also saw Verizon begin accepting pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S5 this week.

Big Red was a bit slow opening these up and that basically meant no real surprise in terms of pricing and availability. They did release it similar to the One (M8), which is to say as a BOGO, or buy-one-get-one. But otherwise, the Galaxy S5 will be available with Verizon beginning on April 11th. The handset is $199.99 on a two-year agreement.

Of course, the big news this week was from Amazon. The long rumored set-top box was announced during an event on April 2nd. The Amazon Fire TV is a $99.99 box that does streaming media and gaming. Amazon even offered the Fire TV for sale immediately after the announcement. And along with the box itself, the game controller is priced at $40. Slightly less exciting as compared to the Fire TV, Amazon also revealed the Dash.

Microsoft released Outlook for Android, which was somewhat of a follow-up to the previous week when they released the long awaited update for Office Mobile for Android. The Office 365 requirement was dropped and users are now able to view and edit Office documents.

A few other highlights from the week came from JC who took a look at Sailfish OS, Nate who wrote a bit about five must have Chrome extensions, and from myself taking a look at five must have Pebble apps. Nate also reviewed the Polaroid XS100i Action Cam. Lastly, we took our first look at a pair of Verizon tablets. These included the LG G Pad 8.3 LTE and the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. Both of these will have full review posts hitting the site very shortly so make sure to keep an eye out.

All things considered, it wasn’t all that bad for an April Fools week.
