NVIDIA SHIELD Android tablet

If you’re wondering if your NVIDIA SHIELD tablet or SHIELD Portable is going to get the latest Android Lollipop ever, we’ve got the answer. The company has already confirmed that the latest mobile OS will be coming very soon. It’s not just Android 5.0 but the Android 5.1 version already. NVIDIA has not made a formal announcement but the company confirmed in a forum that the next Android 5.1 release will fix some performance and responsiveness issues.

This good news is mainly for those who have the SHIELD Portable since the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet has already received Android 5.0.1 update last December, only a month after the Android tablet got a taste of Lollipop.

performance issues post OTA nvidia tablet

Sighted at an NVIDIA community forum was this response from a certain PeterS. Apparently, the SHIELD Tablet experience after the OTA 2.0 wasn’t as good as expected. There were several responsive and performance issues encountered. With the upcoming Android 5.1 software update, both tablets will receive various enhancements, improved security, changes in notifications, Material Design, and a “snappier end user experience” according to the customer care representative who replied to the post.

No exact date of release was given but the update should be ready in the coming weeks. But with the new NVIDIA SHIELD 2 Portable‘s rumored arrival this May, the company might release the software update just in time for the new product’s launch. So if you own an NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet or SHIELD Portable, expect to receive an Over-The-Air (OTA) notification anytime soon or maybe after the newest NVIDIA device is unveiled. Let’s just and see.
