At this point it’s all but confirmed the next version of Android will be 4.3 Jelly Bean, but we’re still waiting for it to arrive. After missing in action at Google I/O, it has shown up here and there but nothing has been made official. We’ve been seeing Android 4.3 a lot lately, and today have one more sighting of the latest OS clearing the Bluetooth certification process.

This isn’t just any device rocking Android 4.3 either, it’s the Google Play edition HTC One complete with 4.3 Jelly Bean on board. We’ve already seen the latest OS version leak for the Galaxy S4 GPe, and now it appears that the HTC One is up next. The Bluetooth certification started back in June, and was cleared on July 5th.

We’ve now seen the HTC One, Galaxy S4, and the Nexus 7 hit Bluetooth SIG with Android 4.3 on board, so it’s safe to say the new OS update should be coming relatively soon. Initial reports are still pegging mid July for a release date, but again, Google’s been silent on all fronts.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is bringing some changes with Bluetooth Low Energy support, and there’s a lot of mention of “LE” here in the filing. More importantly Bluetooth 4.0 LE. The low power standard should help increase accessories and streaming capabilities, as well as improve battery life during such tasks, and more. Not to mention the improved access to wearables like Google Glass.

It’s all coming together out in Mountain View, now all we need is Google to drop Android 4.3 for all, then manufacturers and carriers to quickly follow.

  1. I just want my HTC One to remember that yes, indeed I *DO* want to connect my Subaru’s stereo to media EVERY TIME.

    Not sure why my old GS3 was able to competently remember this, but the HTC One doesn’t.

    • With some stereos, the first device to pair remains the primary device — forever. All subsequent devices are secondary.
