Android users with important dates to remember in December have an issue they need to know about. Android 4.2 has a weird bug that is causing a problem with the People app. The entire month of December has disappeared from the calendar in the app.

For most (possibly all) users, the calendar jumps right from November 2012 to January 2013. Clearly, December is a month filled with holidays and occasions that require gift buying, and while forgetting those major holidays seems unlikely, if you have a lot on your mind and are relying on your phone to remind you to buy people things, this issue could be a problem.

The good news is that other calendars within devices are not affected by the flaw, so you can store your important reminders for gifts there. Supposedly, this flaw exists in all Android 4.2 devices, so if you own a Galaxy 4 or Nexus 10 tablet, chances are you will see this problem. Looks like the Grinch is trying to steal Christmas via Android devices.

Google has not issued official word on the matter. However, this is Google we’re talking about, so you can assume that fix is in the works. In the meantime, just be aware that if you store dates in the People app, you could miss some important dates. As always, we will keep you posted and let you know when a fix for Android 4.2 comes along.

  1. It doesn’t “DELETE” the birthdays – just go into the Contacts section of your Google Account on the web, set the birthday there and then it syncs just fine.

I just created a contact called “Father Christmas” online with the birthday 25th December 2000, and that birthday shows up fine in both my web calendar and my calendar on Android (after enabling the contacts birthdays option in my web calendar).

I can even open and view the contact with that birthday in my Android handset however “People” app force closes if you try to edit that birthday via the phone.

I really don’t think this is as big a deal as people are making it. Just set the contact online and it stays – it doesn’t get deleted and it still shows up in Calendar in the phone and online.

    :o)
