Android 4.1 Jelly Bean leaks for Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean leaks for Verizon Galaxy Nexus

When Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean they stated multiple devices would be getting upgraded to the latest and greatest around mid July. While the Galaxy Nexus was listed everyone knows Verizon likes to take their sweet time. Now it’s nearly September and we still don’t have Jelly Bean. Don’t worry thought because late last night it leaked and is now available to all.

Yup the GSM Galaxy Nexus has been enjoying Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for a few months while those are Verizon are stuck waiting for Big Red to approve and allow the update. Last night however a test build of the official Verizon update (with new 4G radios) was received by a lucky few and shared to the interwebs for us all to enjoy.

This is the absolute latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean build direct from Google, build JRO03O, and is available now for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus according to Droid-Life. The zip that was leaked can be flashed from ANY Android ROM directly to your Galaxy Nexus and you’ll be enjoying a completely stock (but rooted) and lovely version of Jelly Bean. Here’s how:

Instructions:
– Download: update_jro03o.zip
– Reboot into recovery and make a backup.
– You should probably wipe data and cache at this point.
– Then “install zip from sdcard” and find the file you just downloaded.
– Watch it install with your recovery of choice, reboot, and enjoy.

Since this leak of Jelly Bean is official and from the folks at Verizon along with it came some new radios. What this means is they’ve improved their 3G/4G signal, or at least made some changes for the better in Jelly Bean and you can expect more bars, faster speeds, and hopefully faster 3G/4G transitions. Hopefully this means the official update from Verizon themselves is finally ready for prime-time and we might see it later this week.

If you give the leaked Jelly Bean ROM or radios a try feel free to comment below and let everyone know how it goes.

Update: This update appears to be official as Google themselves have also published Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus to their own servers. This is completely stock, unrooted, and will need to be flashed over the official Verizon Galaxy Nexus update version IMM76Q. The latest official update was IMM76K, so this isn’t for everyone. Use caution. Click here to download.

can this be done by dropping the file “update_jro03o.zip” into the external mnt/sdcard section, pressing and holding the Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power buttons until the screen turns on and chosing the “update_jro03o.zip” like a simple update? without root? sorry Im not to tech savy

Cory (Mod), there’s a correction needed for your Update to this story.

The file that Google has on their servers will only work if you are running IMM76Q, but that is not the latest official OTA from Verizon.

The latest OTA is IMM76K. So far there is no OTA that will go from IMM76K to JRO03O.

Oh you are absolutely right.. weak. I’ll update

Does installing these updates preserve settings like the ota update would or does it wipe the phone?
