With half the world’s eyes turned to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the tablet-based Android 3.1 Honeycomb, and yes, even the next upgrade Android x.x Ice Cream Sandwich, you may have certainly forgotten that some Android devices out there are still running Android 2.0! Can you believe it?! One of those devices is the AT&T based Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson announcing today that they’re going to be releasing Android 2.1 very very soon.

This update will be coming to you over the air starting May 31st, 2011, and you’ll be happy to hear that they “can’t thank you enough for your patience.” This upgrade will allow you to download more apps, gain better functionality for the processes you’re already going through day by day, and will fix many bugs you may have experienced on your X10 device since you purchased it.

You can also download the update via Sony Ericsson’s update service, aka SEUS by this particular webpage: SEUS BRINGS YOU XPERIA X10 UPGRADE. You’ll need Intel® Pentium® 4, 2.0 GHz or higher, AMD Athlon on a Windows XP, Vista, or 7 computer. If you do not have one of these, you may be in trouble if you’d like the upgrade. On the other hand, you could just wait for the update, again, to come to you over the air.

  1. I recently downloaded the android 2.1 update for my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 phone. At first I was a little perturbed about how long it needed to take and the complexity of the process in itself, needing to take in excess of a half an hour plus. And having to do this only with the help of a computer. My anticipation of the goodies I thought I was about to get overshadowed these preeminent frustrations I was having. After downloading the update and companion program for the pc. I started to freak out after discovering that my contacts list was mangled and seemingly selectively missing. I lucky had backup im card which after a few days I figured out how to retrieve the rest of my contacts. Overall the update was lacking many of the features and attributes the previous 1.6 version of this phone already bolstered. I did notice that the additional ringtones and a few bells that were added were cool, but overall the update was shoty (being nice) at best. The ability to close a web page easily was removed having to take two additional steps only to have a preset home page to continually pop back up to add to my already brewing frustrations with this update. The ability to call a person with two clicks from a text message conversation was also removed. I even called the customer service for this phone and unsurprisingly was waste of time. I was mostly happy with this phone the way is was before the update. I hope this will get out and maybe ring a bell in the ears of the Sony Ericsson corporation.
