Dell has said on a couple occasions that it will be entering into the smartphone market. Dell is eyeing this market as a way to improve profitability by stepping into a market that is growing well despite the poor economy and the slump in global PC sales.

According to Barron’s analysts believe that Dell will have a limited launch of an Android-based smartphone through China Unicom this fall. Analyst Ashok Kumar from Collins Stewart cites Foxconn as the source for the news.

According to the analyst, other carriers have declined to offer Dell smartphones and at this point, whether or not the Dell smartphone will get any traction remains to be seen. The market in the U.S. is hot for Android devices and I am surprised no carriers wanted the Dell Android device. That really makes me wonder if the phone has some sort of design issue that carriers in America are concerned about.
