Amazon announced the Kindle Fire HDX back in late-September and while pre-orders had opened almost immediately, there is a bit of follow-up news today. The Kindle Fire HDX is now shipping. This includes the 7-inch WiFi-only model, while the LTE equipped model remains available for pre-order.
Amazon has the 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX available with options for 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of storage and they are selling for $229, $269 and $309 for the with special offers option. Those opting out of the special offers can expect to pay $244, $284 or $324 respectively. Otherwise, the AT&T and Verizon LTE models are still set to begin shipping on November 14th.
In terms of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HDX, this one has a display resolution of 1920 x 1200 with a ppi of 323. As compared to the earlier 2012 7-inch Kindle Fire, that is a step up from 1280 x 800 and 216ppi. This new Kindle Fire HDX also has a quad-core 2.2GHz processor, dual-band WiFi, Dolby Audio, dual stereo speakers, a front-facing HD camera and a weight of 303 grams.
Specs aside, we did spend a bit of time with the tablet. We have our initial hands-on that took place during the event as well as a full review that was posted after we had a bit more time with the device. The review video can be seen sitting below and otherwise, it looks like those waiting for the LTE model still have a few weeks of waiting left.
The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX currently shows a shipping date of November 7th. Similar to the 7-inch model, the 8.9-inch will be available as a 16GB, 32GB and 64GB model with options to get it with, or without special offers. The LTE model for the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HDX is set to ship on December 10th and there is also support for two carriers; AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
