Want to buy an Amazon Fire Phone? You can! Pre-orders are up at Amazon’s website. If you though Amazon would price their phone competitively, thogh, think again. The device lists in the average smartphone range; right around $700.

What the listing does tell us is that the device will ship on July 25th, or be “released” then. We’re not sure if that means it’s shipping that day, or the first wave of orders will be received that day.

The listing also suggests an AT&T variant, not unlocked. The device has been confirmed as an AT&T exclusive, too. AT&T does use the global GSM standard, but this isn’t actually unlocked.

One curious notation on the landing page is that the price noted is “with contract”. There doesn’t seem to be a compelling reason to pay full price and have a contract, though, so it remains to be seen just how Amazona nd AT&T will make this attractive to customers.

We’re still here at the Amazon event, so be sure to check back often to get all your Amazon Fire Phone news for the day!

Update: There is a two-year contracted option for $199.99, confirmed on stage by AT&T. If you want to subscribe to NEXT, it’s about $27/month. Happily, the phone comes with a free year of Prime! We’ll wait for further clarity once the pre-order page opens up.

Update #2: Here is the AT&T PR response to today’s news —

Fire ships on July 25 and is available exclusively on AT&T—the nation’s most reliable 4G LTE network. Starting today, customers can pre-order Fire at www.amazon.com/Fire-Phonewww.att.com and in AT&T retail locations nationwide. Fire with 32GB is available for $199 with a two-year contract—that’s an extra 16GB of memory for the same price as many other premium smartphones—or zero money down for as little as $27.09 a month from AT&T on Next 18. Fire is also available with 64GB for $299 with a two-year contract or starting at $31.25/month from AT&T on Next 18.

Limited Time, Introductory Offer
Starting today, customers can take advantage of an introductory, limited time offer—buy Fire and get 12 months of Amazon Prime included—FREE Two-Day Shipping on millions of items, unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows with Prime Instant Video, unlimited, ad-free streaming and downloading of over a million songs and hundreds of playlists, and over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
