Alcatel continues to target the hip young market with trendy midrange phones, now even as they launch the new Alcatel POP 4 line at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. This new line of midrange phones come in three variants – the Alcatel POP 4, the Alcatel POP 4 Plus, and the Alcatel POP 4S. Alcatel is highlighting the trendy colors, slim design and customizable back covers, but you know us – we’d like to see what’s under the hood as well.

The Alcatel POP 4 is probably the most “entry level” phone in the lot. It gives you a 5-inch HD (720p) IPS LCD screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor. That’s supported by 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage expandable via microSD to 32GB, and an 8MP/5MP camera combo. Everything runs under Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and there’s a 2,500mAh battery to keep the power on. There are only slight changes from the POP 4 to the Alcatel POP 4 Plus. The latter has a bigger 5.5-inch HD (720p) IPS LCD screen, but still powered by the same quad-core SD210 chipset. It has slight more RAM at 1.5GB and twice the internal storage at 16GB. Both phones will give you 4G LTE data connectivity.

The most premium of the lot is the Alcatel POP 4S – also sporting a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display, but in FullHD (1080p) resolution. The chipset is the more powerful MediaTek Helio P10 octa-core processor, and in support is 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. You also get a better 13MP/5MP camera combo, and a slightly better 2,960mAh battery. As with the variants mentioned above, this will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and should give you 4G LTE data connectivity. The cherry on top is that the Alcatel POP 4S includes a rockin’ JBL headset, sure to be a draw for those who love listening to music on a quality headset.

On all variants, you get a choice of 4 back covers — Hairline-Brushed, Leather, Wood and Baby Skin. I don’t want to know what “baby skin” is, actually. There is no pricing information yet on the three variants of the Alcatel POP 4 line, but if you’re at the MWC 2016 floor, you can check these babies out at the Alcatel booth.

  1. For this kind of budget device, I will choose another one, vkworld T1 Plus for myself. I like the vkworld better, the new released T1 Plus with 6.0-inch display and 4300mAh battery is for pre-sale now at only $109.99.
