If you thought that all the information about various places and businesses on your Google Maps and Google Search got there through magic, you probably still believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Just in case you didn’t know there are people who actually do the updating and us ordinary human beings are also part of that. Google is now making it easier for us to make our “streets smart” part of the growing community for location-based communications.

It is now actually easier for people to both add missing places and also to edit current information on businesses and landmarks that are in both Google Maps and Google Search. And more than just the business hours or the address of said establishments, you can also now add other pertinent information about these places, if you’ve been to them. You can tell people whether the restaurants are pet friendly, whether they have vegetarian dishes or whether the bookshop lets you read books while browsing.

To make sure that the information people are editing on the places are correct, you can also contribute in the verification process. If a place has a pending edit suggestion, you can view it and if you know what they’re saying is true, you can verify it. When it has reached a certain number of confirmations, then it will officially be published. This way also, the verification process is a bit faster and so changes can be applied quickly.
