If you’re an Acer Iconia Tab Android tablet user we could have some bad news for you. We’ve heard a few mixed reports on their update schedule but some new comments today have us worried that multiple models will not be seeing the latest version of Android. Multiple models including the Iconia Tab A500 and more.

Interestedly enough Acer just last week updated their new Iconia Tab A700 to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Which runs on the NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor. The older models like their Iconia Tab A100, A200, and A500 all run the older, but highly capable NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and come with 1GB of RAM. Today we’re hearing all three of those tablets will not be updated past Ice Cream Sandwich.

According to TabletsMagazine an Acer UK representative stated that these “old” models will not be updated to the latest version of Android. That being Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. And as they say — this will certainly cause some discontent and anger among the Iconia community.

We’ve heard a few reports that the update is in the testing phase, so this could be a sign that things aren’t going as well as planed. The tablets were late to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so we can’t expect them to be fast like ASUS to Jelly Bean either. We’ve reached out for additional comments and will report back. So far what we’re hearing today isn’t good. There’s multiple custom ROM’s already available for those who want Jelly Bean, but an official update would be nice. Stay tuned!

  1. This is why I have decided that all of my devices from here on out will be Nexus Devices. Nexus 7 rocks, and when my contract runs out with Verizon, I am going back to T-Mo and buying a nexus device unlocked direct from google. No need to buy a device and hope it gets updates to the OS.

    • I have the A100 with CM10 preview build unofficial. This was ported from the A500, just a few adjustments I heard, talk to user “waydownsouth” on the xda forums as he did the port I believe.

  2. Guess Acer doesn’t want repeat business? I could see barring the update if thee were some technical reason but this just smacks of forced obsolescence.

  3. Not true!!!!!!! No one known right now if a100,a200,a500 will get jelly bean!!!! Its in testing stages and No one knows if it coming out for a100,a200,a500 Acer said their testing JB on all their tablet and most likely to come out for all their tablets !!!!!!!!!!! End of story !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I don’t really mind if they want to drop future support but at least unlock the freaking boot loader. You should not have to root a tablet to begin with let alone one that no longer will get update.

  5. So, those that Acer doesn’t wish to upgrade are considered second class citizens even though they have purchased their product?

  8. I kinda wish my A500 was still running Honeycomb. It worked a lot better with it. The only reason I’d want the Jellybean upgrade is if it was more stable than Ice Cream Sandwich.

WE DESERVE, AS FAITHFUL TABLET USERS, THE NEWEST OI.O.S ALONG WITH. EVERYONE ELSE!!! I AM NOT HAPPY AT AL!!! NO WONDER. MY TABLET HAS BEEN BEING SO SHITTY LATELY, BECUASE IT JUST FALLS FARTHER AND FARTHER BEHIND!!! HOW LONG UNTILL YOU JUST DROP THE A500 and the A100 FROM YOUR SERVER ALTOGETHER?
